Exhibitions with Cheryl Petersen After many years of volunteer work with the Derinya Art Craft Exhibition, busy Frankston South graphic designer and mum-of-2 Maureen Whitaker decided it was time to pick up a paintbrush herself.
So after 2009 DACE wrapped up, she went online and found Cheryl Petersen s Gallery.
Her art really spoke to me.
Her bright colours and joyful style was exactly the kind of energy I wanted to create, so I immediately signed up for her adult art classes and attended as many of her workshops as time would allow.
The second Modern Art for Beginners workshop I attended, I approached Cheryl with an idea I had for creating coral reef pieces using a variety of materials and textures.
The finished pieces really captured people s imaginations and were very popular.
So when Cheryl asked me to do an exhibition of them, it was an exciting and somewhat daunting opportunity, but one that has been a true labour of love.
The exhibition runs until June 12th 2011 at Cheryl Petersen Galleries, shop 7 8 Edward Street, Somerville www. />cherylpetersengalleries.com .

Well done Lorna Mayor, CEO launch iVolunteer Program Mayor Kris Bolam JP and CEO George Modrich have headed to CityLife to help with the community lunch and also launch Council s iVolunteer program.
The program is a 12 month trial to provide Council s 832 permanent staff the opportunity to undertake a one day volunteer activity with organisations that help the Frankston community during work hours.
Mayor Bolam said The program gives our staff the chance to help others, expand their own horizons, and the program will mean Council has employees with an even greater appreciation of the community they work for.
A range of volunteer activities have been sought through the Frankston Volunteer Resource Centre VRC to provide support for organisations who currently require assistance.
It is hoped the program will build on Council s corporate values whilst strengthening the relationship between council staff and community organisations.
Frankston City has approximately 13,000 volunteers who give their time in areas such as education, conservation, aged services, caring for family, sport, health, libraries and emergency services amongst many others.
More than 40 of respondents to this year's municipal community survey stated they had volunteered in the past year.
Residents who would like more information about volunteering should phone the VRC on 9770 6492.
