Stewart Plant who grew up on the Peninsula has returned to open the Fine Wine Merchant in Mornington.
Stewart has impressive credentials including winning Australia's most prestigious wine award, the Negociants Wine Fellowship in 2004.
He is also an accomplished wine writer and commentator, was GM of two of Australia s leading independent wine stores and established a specialist fine wine business 18 months ago focussing on the world s greatest wines for a small private client list.
Whilst the store is tiny, we have a world-class range of wines of exceptional quality, predominantly from small, boutique producers.
Nearly half of the wines in the store are imported, We carry a large range of glassware and decanters, as well as recently offering fresh, French mushrooms morels, chanterelles and mousseron , truffles and wild asparagus.
These are airfreighted in each week whilst in season and to my knowledge is completely unique outside of Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide.
We are about to stock a range of wine books and magazines as well.
We pride ourselves on having pretty much all of Australia's rarest, hardest-to-source wines in stock the likes of Bindi, Bass Phillip, Clonakilla, Epis, Giaconda, Wendouree, Mount Mary etc, as well as many tiny, new and fascinating producers that are unavailable practically anywhere else.
We also stock many of the world's absolute greatest producers such as Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Chateau Petrus, Domaine Leroy, Chateau Latour.
We sell wines from 8 to 5,000 and more per bottle.
And of course, we strongly support local wines, with around 100 Mornington Peninsula wines from at least 25 producers in stock at the moment.
Despite very limited shelf space, we hope to grow this further in the coming months.
