fashionwith annette sanfilippo It s a Theatrical Winter Play the Part Imagine for a second that you are staring out across the skyline cityscape that folds deep back into layers of misty hues of grey, blacks and lightened shades of a moody sky, or peering over an endless rural harvest landscape of earthy grass tones and whimsical patches of sepia, coffee and straw.
Well I hope I have set the backdrop for what will be your winter palette playground but it doesn t end just there.
This season you will see combinations of what is known as Hyper Colour trends that will throw opulent brights against these subdued colour combinations.
With almost a surreal effect the drab winter wardrobes will spring to life with vibrancy and optimism through all areas of winter fashion.
Splashes of magenta, teal, paprika, and clay will play off through little additions you can add very easily through winter.
Almost any colour you desire can partner up and you will be amazed when you see just how well they compare and contrast to each other.
For example purple marries quite well with most base colours, pastels and brights and visa versa deep camel works well with many brights as well.
So start thinking outside the norm in the next few weeks to get yourselves through the cold Colour combinations of strength and softness, pale and bright, black and cream, fuse together beautifully from leathers, knits, suede s, faux fur, romantic florals and textured fabrics to bring together a chic modern playful and yet sophisticated story for winter 2011.
So many trends are at the helm and again, it s your choice to individualize your seasons look.
Locals flaunt it with the best The boutiques are housing some of the most amazing designs reflecting trimmed necklines and hems, brocades, lace overlays, gloves, hats, handbags, scarves, boots and the one major must have hosiery I can t stress enough how important and versatile this accessory is going to be.
It s the one thing that helps you blend your look together and mix up your textures successfully.
From opaque, prints, weaves and multi colours the choice is there for the taking.
As legs are one of your best features this season, designs will have shorter hemlines to show them off A good pair of stretch-net longjohns or leggings will also be a great addition.
One of the key highlights in footwear is boots.
Either they go up the leg all the way to give texture and detail and counter the minimal hems or stay way low and look rather shoe-like adorning laces, fur and ribbons and allowing you to feature all your fabulous hosiery.
On the Peninsula, Miss Velvet and Lilybelle shoes and accessories are well know for their decadent styles and it wont be too hard to please your desire for the perfect winter shoe and more.
Dressing will take on a Boudoir Style of layering that may seem reminiscent of early 20th Century.
Suits, jackets and skirt styles have been re-modernized from styles portrayed in iconic collections from the likes of Dior and House of Chanel, bought to life by the famous such as Nicole Kidman.
Of late, movies like Water for Elephants staring Reece Witherspoon and old cinema remakes are bringing a love back for the eras of the 1920 s through to the 1940 s with a focus on hair styles, makeup and even hats I have had a lot of joy rekindling my embroidery talents and embellishing berets and vintage fur pieces to compliment this wonderful styling.
From the avant-guard to the classic, Europe has always been a prominent influence for our inspiration.
Beautiful coats are making a comeback and as our weather seems to be displaying spasmodic cold spells we all need to have one at the ready.
Fiona s of Mornington, Euro Collection and Geoff Bade to name a few local boutiques, have a luxurious collection featuring different lengths, styles and colours.
Camel is by far the most used colour in the winter spectrum and something in your wardrobe of this tone would be a great asset.
Teaming up tonal leather or fur trimmed belts and shoes or popping it with red gloves and knitted scarf is an easy way to achieve the look and if you need to be a bit savvy Bella on Barkly will have it all and at the right price.
As the coats are rather heavily weighted and we want to show them off as much as possible, the dresses and separates are coming through in lighter weight wool blend fabrics which may seem stretchy or have a lovely swathing flow.
This also allows us to have fun layering and utilizing all of the current trends in one outfit.
Vintage style lends itself beautifully to winter as it has always been known to mix and match colours, patterns separates and texture really well.
Yoko and Ruby Finch, both definite stopovers will help adorn you from top to toe, so you can really let your imagination set free With all the choice available on the Peninsula shopping circuit, I do expect that we will have some of the finest rugged up fashionistas around.
Take a little pride this season and give yourself a chance to find your inner style with so many available trends at your fingertips.
Its very today to look a little yesterday, from the saltry looks of Jean Harlow, Marlene Deitrich and modern day movie stars, to the powerful yet feminine presence of Lauren Bacall and Jane Russel.
