With vintage 2011 now over it s a good time to reflect on the season at Paringa.
Despite the challenging growing season with rainfall and humidity being much higher the normal hard work and vigilance in our vineyards allowed us to reach vintage with moderate crops of healthy fruit.
Vintage began at the beginning of April almost four weeks later than 2010 and finished mid May.
Good weather conditions through much of April allowed us to pick our Chardonnay s and Pinot Noir s in very good condition with excellent flavor and sugar levels.
The qualities of our Chardonnay s are excellent with the cooler season producing higher natural acidity than recent vintages.
The Pinot s also have good acidity, flavor and colour and show great promise.
Winemaker Lindsay McCall at Paringa Estate believes all the hard work in the vineyard has paid off.
Our Cambodian team worked more hours than previous years, our general canopy management, leaf plucking and fruit thinning.
While these measures are important in any season, they were particularly important in 2011 he said.
All good wine is made in the vineyard and this is especially the case this year.
The vines are now in barrel maturing and we wait with great optomise as to how they will evolve.
OFF TO IPNC IN OREGON Winemaker Lindsay McCall has been invited to attend the 2011 International Pinot Noir Conference to be held in Oregon in July 2011.
It is a great honor to be selected to show your wines at such a huge international event representing Australia or more importantly our Mornington Peninsula Region.
The event will be attended by 30 wineries from Oregon, 15 from California, 10 from Burgundy and 7 from other growing regions around the world including Australia.
600 people attend the celebration from all parts of the US and Canada.
We held our Australian version of the Pinot Celebration in January this year which was a huge success.
It will be interesting to meet like minded people on the other side of the world and to share passion and love of Pinot Noir.
