What Bird is That BirdLife Australia Mornington Peninsula Branch will hold its 8th annual What Bird is That event on Sunday 28 October from 9am to 1230pm at The Briars, Mt Martha.
This free event involving the public has been held since 2005 and includes various displays, talks held in the theatrette, informal chats and guided tours of the wetlands and nearby surroundings conducted by experienced members.
A great opportunity to learn about the birds of the Peninsula if you own a pair of binoculars this is the occasion to put them to good use.
BirdLife Australia Mornington Peninsula Branch began as an entity in May 1983 under the name of the Peninsula Bird Observers Club and in 1985 affiliated with BOCA originally, Bird Observers Club of Australia later changed to Bird Observation and Conservation Australia .
Finally, last year BOCA merged with Birds Australia, a like organization, establishing BirdLife Australia with a combined membership of over 10,000.
Our branch, Birdlife Australia Mornington Peninsula has a current membership of over 200.
Every month we have two outings to a multitude of locations on the peninsula ranging from better known venues such as Coolart, The Briars, Greens Bush, Langwarrin Fauna Flora Reserve, Jacks Beach, Devil s Bend Reservoir to lesser known reserves such as Woodland Tuerong, Sweetwater Creek Reserve, Endeavour Gully Reserve to name just a few.
In addition we are also actively involved in education and conservation issues.
Some of our members are involved in bird monitoring including such species as the Hooded Plovers , under threat, on the peninsula ocean beaches.
