The Guild Art Gallery, Celebrates 21 Years The gallery was originally set-up in 1991 by members of McClelland Guild of Artists who wished to have an outlet for the sale of their paintings.
It was members support that encouraged the then Committee to secure suitable premises for such a purpose.
About thirty enthusiastic members banded together, on a 3 month trial basis, opening an art gallery at the Moorooduc Coolstores complex.
This leap of faith gained momentum, which led to acquiring larger premises at the Art and Craft Village, rear of the Packing House Antique Centre, Tyabb in 2000.
Four of those founding members, Judith Healey, June MacPherson, Gillian Bolwell and Lyn Evans, continue to exhibit at the gallery.
These ladies have contributed to many dealings at the gallery, and after 21 years of operation, displaying and selling works and promoting McClelland Guild of Artists, they can still proudly boast of the high standard of art exhibited at affordable prices.
This enduring vibrant gallery is indebted to its treasurer, Ken Weatherley, husband of artist Val, who helps run the gallery co-operatively with its 24 local members, many of which are well-known throughout Australia and overseas.
Joan McLean has featured in the prestigious, Australian Artist Judith Healey won 1st prize Dromana Estate Sandra Karick is often awarded best peninsula scene Kaye Freer is renowned for her exquisite animal art Wendy Hall for watercolour, and so the list goes on.
These award-winning artists, with impressive credentials, all come together with a shared passion for painting and take delight in discussing the art on display to visitors who regularly express surprise and delight at the quality of paintings for sale at such reasonable prices.
Each artist enjoys a different vision, but the work is mainly traditional, varying in subject matter, technique and medium, which make for an exciting selection of exhibited works for sale.
Because the gallery exhibition is continually changing, many sales result from returning clients or through personal recommendations.
One or two artists are always on duty, and love to inform and share the pleasures of their creativity with visitors, taking delight at how many proudly hang their work in private collections throughout Australia and overseas.
Gillian Bolwell s art has been published in 1st 2nd editions of the highly esteemed Australia Artists Today.
Artists also produce original unframed paintings, cards and miniatures, all of which are ideal gifts for travellers and bargain hunters looking for birthday, anniversary and Christmas gifts.
The Guild Art Gallery is open 10am 5pm Thursday Sunday, public holidays and daily for the first week in January.
